Burwell Village Carnival

Burwell Carnival 2016

Preparations are almost complete as we gather ourselves for the final push towards Carnival 2016. A new venue (The Recreation Ground) brings new challenges, however we are confident that we will be able to provide the village with a day to remember!

To date we have had another amazing response from local groups and businesses as the theme of ‘Children’s TV Through The Ages’ has really taken hold. With a number of float entries already in place, we anticipate many more to come in the weeks ahead.

We have a new competition in place this year to help us choose our Carnival King, Queen and their Attendants. For those in Key Stage 1 there is a themed wordsearch to complete whilst for those in Key Stage 2 a trickier crossword puzzle is the order of the day. All winners will be chosen randomly, so download for your chance to win & good luck to all who enter!

Once again, we are part of the Isle of Ely Arts Festival and for the first time we will be the climax of Burwell Festival. Why not drop into the Festival tent where we have additional activities such as poetry reading and storytelling as we aim to diversify what’s on offer on Carnival Day.

We have an eclectic mix of entertainment throughout the day both off and on stage. There will be displays, music, street style entertainment, games & funfair rides to keep you amused as you wander the field during the afternoon. Then as we enter the evening we have a fabulous mix of music genres from local Jazz singer Jude Keen followed by Now Wash Your Hands before The Indietones close the show.

As always we wouldn’t be able to put Carnival on without the help of some generous commercial sponsors, those who provide the transport for the floats and those individuals who freely give up their time to run stalls, help as road marshals or collect money in the buckets along the parade route. We are indebted to you all!

So, tell your friends, family and colleagues that Burwell is the place to be on June 18th.

We look forward to seeing you all!

We ask all those who attend the evening entertainment to leave the field quietly and with consideration for those who live nearby.

Should anyone need to report any lost items, then please go to the control centre located in the pavilion. For other matters, either approach one of the Carnival stewards wearing a red shirt or go straight to one of the Police officers who will be patrolling the field.

Should any accidents or injuries occur, please attend the St John’s Ambulance tent and report it to a Carnival steward.
